Dr Sir Ron Carter KNZM - Chairman

Born in 1935, Sir Ron Carter was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and obtained a Master of Engineering from the University of Auckland. In 1968 Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner Limited was formed.

He was Managing Director of Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner Limited from 1986 to 1995 when he was appointed Chairman of the Beca Group of Consulting Engineers.  In April 2000 he stood down as Chairman but remained an executive director until April 2002 he retired from the Board.  He is now retained as Strategic Advisor to the Board of Beca Group Ltd.

Special assignments include being a member of a three person review panel which reported on the 1992 electricity shortage on behalf of the Prime Minister; Chairman of a three person panel which reviewed the 1994 water shortage and proposed emergency augmentation on behalf of Auckland territorial authorities and in 1999 he was appointed Chairman of the Government's review team to report on the management of New Zealand's borders.  This review of customs, quarantine, immigration and aviation security was completed in October 1999.  In 2002 he headed a small team to carry out a review of the Auckland Regional Rail Upgrade Project for Auckland Regional Council.

Richard Didsbury

Richard has a strong background in property along with significant experience in underwriting project risk. He is founder and Director of Kiwi Income Properties, NZ's largest listed property investment entity.

Richard graduated in engineering and is a key figure in the Auckland commercial property sector. He is a past President of the Property Council of New Zealand, was a director of Infrastructure Auckland and Chairman of the Auckland Sculpture Trust.


David McConnell

David McConnell

David is Managing Director of McConnell Limited.  He has a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from Canterbury University and an MBA from Northwestern University, Chicago.

David began his career in Sydney with New York-based strategic management consulting company, Booz Allen and Hamilton Inc. Having worked and studied overseas, David returned to New Zealand in 1993 to assist the McConnell Family with its business interests and in the process established McConnell Ltd with his brother and father.

McConnell Ltd is now considered a leader in the New Zealand construction and property development industries supported by it subsidiaries Hawkins Construction, McConnell Property and Steelpipe New Zealand.

David is also a member of the University of Auckland Business School Advisory Board and is a recipient of the Sir Peter Blake Emerging Leadership Award 2006.

David Tapper

David is a Trustee and Director of the Committee for Auckland and led the project team which developed the economic development strategy for the Auckland region, proposed by Competitive Auckland in 2001. David is currently Vice President and Director in the Auckland office of The Boston Consulting Group, an international strategy consulting firm, where he focuses primarily on agribusiness, consumer and industrial goods. 


Earl Gray

Earl Gray

Earl heads Simpson Grierson's Intellectual Property Group, and is regarded as one of New Zealand's leading intellectual property lawyers.  He advises on all aspects of intellectual property, including protection, portfolio structuring and management, exploitation, transfer and enforcement.    In Chambers Global Guide 2006 Earl is ranked as leading in intellectual property and described as "technically gifted", "a strong leader" and "proactive; good at anticipating the issues". 

Earl currently chairs the Asia-Pacific Subcommittee of the International Amicus Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and is Deputy Chair of Auckland's CBD Advisory Board.  He has previously chaired the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Lex Mundi, the world's leading association of independent law firms.  Earl thinks Auckland has made real progress in the last few years towards realising and bedding in its potential, and strongly believes that a whole lot more can be achieved by careful selection and nurture.

Professor John Raine

Professor John Raine is Pro Vice Chancellor of innovation and leadership for Auckland University of Technology (AUT).  Prior to this position he provided strategic leadership for the Massey Albany Campus, capital developments, and relationships with business, industry and the community. He was also responsible for the University's international operations across all three Massey campuses. John's previous position was as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise and International) at the University of Canterbury.

John Raine's career has included periods as a professional engineer in engineering design and technical management in industry, and small business development. He continues some engineering consulting, mainly in vehicle crash reconstruction. Professor Raine has been involved in research and IP commercialisation since 1987 and co-founded Christchurch company WhisperTech Ltd. He is a member of the governance boards of the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, IPENZ, and Massey University's e-centre Ltd. He was a member of the Ministry of Economic Development Design Task Force 2002-2004.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
Richard Harris

Kaaren Goodall

Kaaren joined the Committee for Auckland in September 2003.  She brings with her a background in economic development, and urban revitalisation built up during senior management roles in Waitakere and Rodney Councils, and through contracting to others - Auckland and Manukau - in her own consulting business.  She has also completed work in the Pacific on assignments with the NZ Agency for International Development.

Kaaren has spent 7 years as the Executive Director of the Committee for Auckland, and has recently joined Sea+ City where her passion for developing a better Auckland environment will continue.


Richard Harris

Richard has been a director of Jasmax since 1989.  He became the first managing director in 1995 and has been chairman since 2000. His early career included experience in private practices, a development company and Auckland City Council.

Richard is a former New Zealand Institute of Architects national councillor and is a past chairman of the Architects Education and Registration Board.

He has taken the lead architectural role in a number of Auckland's heritage refurbishments, including the Auckland Town Hall and Civic Theatre projects. He has lead the architectural team on the AUT's Wellesley Campus redevelopment and masterplanning over the last decade and has been the director-in-charge of the new Auckland City Hospital, the Sylvia Park retail development and currently, the Eden Park redevelopment for the Rugby World Cup.

His projects have won numerous architectural and property industry awards. Richard has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Auckland, is a registered architect and a Fellow of the NZIA.
